HURRICANE SHUTTERS- APPROVED TYPES
EFFECTIVE MAY 18, 2006

Consistent with Florida Statute 718.113(5), and desirous of protecting and preserving the Units composing our Condominium complex, the Board of Directors has reviewed various shutter types now available on the market on the Treasure Coast and has decided to approve the following types of shutters for installation by Unit Owners who wish to protect their Units against impact damage in tropical storms or hurricanes:

ROLL DOWN HORIZONTAL TYPE These may be hand cranked or electrical powered, must have bronze frames, white or off-white (ivory) shutter slats and have the “box” enclosure which holds the rolled-up shutter, and is located on the outer wall of the building, painted the same color as the outer walls of the buildings. These may be utilized for windows or porches.
ACCORDIAN VERTICAL SLAT TYPE. These close to the sides of the windows, and must have bronze frames and either bronze slats, or white or off white (ivory) slats. These may be used for window applications.
CORRUGATED PANEL TYPE. These consist of several panels placed vertically, each panel overlapping the adjoining panel to form an impact barrier over the window or porch opening, which are attached to the building by pre-installed fixed bolts with butterfly type nuts. Galvanized steel or stainless steel, rust protected bolts and nuts must be utilized to prevent rust damage to the building siding. The corrugated panels may be of aluminum, colored bronze or white or off white (ivory); or of high density poly ethylene impact resistant material of translucent white or clear in color. These may be used for window or porch applications.
In all cases the shutters must comply with the current Building Code requirements and be installed accordingly. Maintenance of any shutters installed is the responsibility of the Unit Owner upon whose Unit the shutters are installed. This includes maintaining the color of the shutters as originally installed if such color deteriorates due to weathering in our tropical climate environment.
BEFORE ORDERING shutters to be installed, submit your dated and signed written request to the Board of Directors with a technical description of the proposed shutter system and photographs (such as in a brochure or catalog) so that the Board may review your request and determine if it is of an approved type. You will be given a written response to your request within two weeks of its receipt by the Board of Directors.

APPROVAL

The above HURRICANE SHUTTER TYPE APPROVAL was discussed and approved by a unanimous vote of the Directors present at the Board of Directors Meeting of May 18, 2006.

I, Katherine Whidden, Secretary, attest to this vote of Approval.
