AN ON TARGET LETTER TO THE EDITORS OF THE PRESS JOURNAL FROM THE PRESIDENT OF A LARGE CONDOMINIUM SOUTH OF US IN VERO.
MAY 20, 2006
Storm-battered residents ignored in rush for growth.
Amid all the talk about growth, there seems to be little or no discussion of the hurricane victims who are still out there. Blue tarps are still in evidence. In condo land, we are still very much hurting. Our problems come from five factors: money, time, labor, materials and government.
Money: Insurance companies who don't pay or stall as long as possible. Insurance money for living expenses has run out for many.
Time: Everyone is overworked.
Labor: Where would we have been without the Mexicans working 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on our roofs?
Materials: Tile comes from South America, drywall from Poland — and all of it sits in customs awaiting inspection.
Government: The traffic jam that is on State Road 60 can't hold a candle to the traffic jam that is in the building department.
And yet the new building rolls right along. The politicians, county government and the press should take a look at the aftermath of the storms.

As Unit Owners of Pelican Pointe can see, this is much the same situation we have found ourselves in. In my discussion with Ms. Glass she noted that many other Condominiums are far behind us in recovery from the 2004 hurricanes. We are very fortunate that the SBA has responded to our needs for Loans to do our repairs. Frank Marshall.
