FURTHER PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE BY THE
“CONCERNED IRC TAXPAYERS TEAM” IN THE CONCERTED EFFORT TO STOP
FURTHER WASTEFUL SPENDING OF OUR TAXPAYERS’ MONEY ON THE
FIND IR-2 DMMA PROJECT TO CONSTRUCT A 179 ACRE MUCK DUMP SITE
ON PRIME RIVERFRONT PROPERTY, EAST OF US-1, NORTH OF 99TH STREET,
TO JUST BELOW SCHUMANN DRIVE. THIS SITE IS MISPLACED; IT IS ON THE
FLOOD ZONE, AND IS IN A DENSELY POPULATED AREA. SUCH SITES
SHOULD BE UPLAND AWAY FROM THE RIVER AND IN A REMOTE AREA
AWAY FROM DEVELOPED COMMUNITIES. A COMPLETELY DEVELOPED
TWO MILLION CUBIC YARD CAPACITY SITE EXISTS NEARBY THE AREA TO
BE DREDGED (WHENEVER THIS MIGHT TAKE PLACE, AS THIS AREA
SHOULD BE OF VERY LOW PRIORITY COMPARED TO OTHER SECTIONS OF
THE RIVER WITH DANGEROUS SHOALING PROBLEMS.) THIS EXISTING SITE IS BEING
OPERATED BY THE ST. JOHN’S WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT AND WAS
USED TO HANDLE THE SEDIMENT FROM DREDGING OF THE SEBASTIAN
RIVER A FEW YEARS AGO. WHY SPEND OUR TAX DOLLARS WHEN THIS
FACILITY HAS SUFFICIENT CAPACITY TO HANDLE THE SEDIMENT FROM
DREDGING OF THE SMALLER 3 MILE SECTION OF THE RIVER. THEY
RECENTLY DECIDED WAS ALL THEY NEEDED TO DO AFTER OUR TEAM
TOLD THEM THAT 5 OF THE 8 MILE REACH THEY WERE CONSIDERING WAS
12 OR MORE FEET DEEP AND DID NOT REQUIRE DREDGING! THIS LESS
THAN THOROUGH PREPARATION SEEMS TO PERMEATE ALL PHASES OF
THIS PROJECT AND IS FURTHER CAUSE FOR STATE INVESTIGATION.
1. OUR STATE SENATOR, MIKE HARIDOPOLOUS, AND STATE
REPRESENTATIVE DEBBIE MAYFIELD ALONG WITH OTHERS HAVE AGREED
TO MEET WITH US AND THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS IN SEPTEMBER TO
REVIEW THE SITUATION.
2. WE HAVE SENT A LETTER, AN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY, AND A 35 PAGE
DETAILED REPORT OF OUR TEAM’S INVESTIGATIVE FINDINGS TO
GOVERNOR SCOTT ASKING FOR A REVIEW AND ACTION FROM HIS OFFICE.
GO TO THESE LINKS TO SEE THESE. “RIGHT CLICK ON THE LINK” AND
WHEN THE BOX COMES UP CLICK ON “OPEN IN A NEW WINDOW” WHICH
WILL ALLOW YOU TO READ, SAVE AND PRINT THE FILE DOCUMENT
WHICH IS IN PDF FORMAT.

6. THE ABOVE FILES ARE BEING SENT TO OTHER GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS
WHO HAVE AN INTEREST, INCLUDING THE INSPECTOR GENERAL, THE
STATE DIVISION OF HISTORICAL RESOURCES, THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF
HEALTH (FOR THE MERCURY TOXIC CONCERNS), ST. JOHN’S WATER
MANAGEMENT DISTRICT, FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION
COMMISSION, ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS-JACKSONVILLE, FIND’S
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AND OTHERS. THE STATE SENATORS,
REPRESENTATIVES AND COUNTY COMMISSIONER HAVE ALREADY BEEN
SENT THESE FILES ELECTRONICALLY.
7. WE BELIEVE THAT IF THEY REVIEW THE FACTS THAT WE HAVE ”ÐREDGED
UP” THEY WILL TAKE SOME POSITIVE ACTION.

OUR MOTTO IS AN ABRAHAM LINCOLN QUOTE: “To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.”
WE WILL KEEP YOU POSTED AS THINGS DEVELOP FURTHER.
