Obituary for Regina Drake
Regina Drake, 82, died Saturday, September 29 at her home in Massapequa of Alzheimer's. Mrs. Drake taught High School English in Copiague and Smithtown. After retiring in1987, she taught poetry for Elder Hostel, a nonprofit travel organization for adults of 55. Born in New York City in 1925, Regina McKenna was raised in South Ozone Park, Queens. Married Kenneth Drake in 1947 and worked as a bookkeeper in the Garment District and the Jockeys Guild.before earning her B.A. in English at Hofstra University in 1960 and her M.A.T. from Illinois Teachers College in 1966 and began her teaching career at Niles West High School outside of Chicago where she was active in the early days of teacher union organization. Mrs. Drake is survived by her husband, son Ken Jr. and her grandchildren John Corcoran of San Diego, Calif. and Julia Corcoran of New York, NY, and Great grand children Katie and Charles in San Diego. CA. A private service has been held.
