Tom Gallagher might be trailing Charlie Crist when it comes to raising money in the race to become the
Republican candidate for governor, but he does have a big edge among one constituency: the state's insurers.
Gallagher, the state's chief financial officer and former insurance commissioner, raised more than $233,000 from
insurance interests during the quarter ended June 30, state election records show.
Crist, the state's attorney general, raised more than $57,000 from insurance
interests during the same period.
Overall, Crist raised $3.8 million during the quarter; Gallagher raised $3.0 million.
On the Democratic side, Rod Smith, a state senator from Gainesville, raised $10,700 from the insurance
industry, while U.S. Rep. Jim Davis of Tampa raised $5,200 and former state party chair Scott Maddox
$2,500.
From all sources, Davis raised $390,000, Smith $330,000 and Maddox $300,000.
